Nepal Tourism Looks Bright in 2018

Dear Friends,
Tourist arrival in Nepal was pretty much less than expected in 2016. It must have been due to major earth quack in April 2015. Since then the progress of the infrastructure development and reconstruction work has been slow. But investment in tourism had increased. Recently one newspaper head line said ‘Nepal on track to hit magic figure of 1 million arrivals.’
The news was buoyant. It is because Department of Immigration showed arrival figure at 7,57,448 until October 2017. This is 25 percent increased over 2016 figure at the same time. Top five countries are India, China, USA, Sri Lanka and UK. The figure surpassed all previous records. Foreign exchange earned from tourism jumped 40 percent according to Nepal Central Bank. General belief is that tourist arrival in 2018 would cross one million marks. It is a magic number for tourism manager, planners and entrepreneurs. It was a dashed dream so far to reach the figure.
The next good news was about air safety issue of Civil Aviation Administration of Nepal (CAAN). International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has lifted its safety tag they had pinned. CAAN had not maintained international standard. ICAO gave significant safety (SST) tag in 2009. Now CAAN has scored 66 percent in effective implementation of safety standard. So it lifted the tag in July 2017. Now it is the turn of Aviation Safety Committee of the European Commission. They reviewing their restriction on Nepal’s carriers and Civil Aviation authority. Until now many tour operators have been using domestic airlines at their own risk. Now CAAN is positive about the result from the European Commission. We all hope to hear the result very soon.
The third good news is the eventual end of political instability by end of December 2017. This is optimistic news for tourism. The country went through political instability for more than 11 years. The instability had caused social and economic havoc since 2005. Finally some sort of social contract has happened. Now the Nepalese will elect their representatives to the central and federal parliament. The election is set to hold on Nov 26 and Dec 07, 2017. This is for the first time after the country became republic. New parliament and government will come into place by this Christmas.
